Screenplay LiveLast November, SCREENPLAY LIVE! made its debut at the High Falls Film Festival, with BlueCat staging live readings of our top scripts authored by women.
IN THE LIVES OF BROTHERS by Kelsey Simons and GEORGIE by Kathy Garcia, both 2004 BlueCat finalists, were selected for the inaugural version of this exciting new sidebar to the BlueCat Screenplay Competition. The High Fall Film Festival's mission of celebrating women in film matched seamlessly with BlueCat's dedication to the undiscovered screenwriter, producing unforgettable, artful experiences for the BlueCat screenwriters, as well as the entire audience. RochesterTalent.com, a local casting agency, helped cast the readings with local actors, with direct input from Kelsey and Kathy. Gordy Hoffman directed the readings with Kelsey and Kathy present and involved at all rehearsals. Even Andy Pagana, half of the script writing team who won the 2004 BlueCat, made an appearance, staging a pratfall off the edge of the stage before he provided narration for GEORGIE. A Q&A with the screenwriters followed each reading and the entire audience received a copy of the screenplay. We look forward to celebrating our top women writers at SCREENPLAY LIVE! for years to come. Please visit our Press section to view the media coverage of SCREENPLAY LIVE!
"It was such a great experience to see my script read in front of an audience, and to see that people actually "got it." (I wasn't sure they would). BlueCat did a remarkable job hashing out all those details in what seemed like a very limited amount of time, and there was still time for fun. Now I wish we all lived closer so we could hang out sometimes :( "
"BlueCat's hard work and dedication really comes from a sincere wish to help the writer, but most importantly, the story. Not only did these readings help me to 'experience' my script and pinpoint where it needed work, but they also helped it to become real for me, not just a page. An invaluable gift for any writer. These people get it." Special Thanks:
